The S-2 scenario

Obligation for all non-captive aircraft:
– Altitude information based on a barometric sensor
– Maximum flight height can be programmed
– Ability to shut down engines in flight – the engine shutdown function must be independent of the flight controller/autopilot.
– Fail-safe function in the event of loss of control link
– Cartographic information on aircraft position and movement
– Lateral limits can be programmed so that crossing them is prohibited or triggers an alarm
– Recording of essential parameters for the last 20 minutes of flight

Maximum authorized weight according to operational scenarios :
Unless specifically authorized, only aircraft whose weight does not exceed the following limits, depending on the scenario, may be used:

Scenario S-2 :
– Below 50m in height: no particular restrictions (*)
– Above 50m: only aircraft weighing 2 kg or less

(*)Aircraft over 25 kg Aircraft over 25 kg are subject to additional technical design conditions, defined on a case-by-case basis. The DSAC should be contacted in advance of any project involving such an aircraft.


Scenario STS-02 – European legislation

Under European legislation, a C6-class UAV is required to carry out missions in STS-02 flight scenarios (flight out of sight, outside populated areas).

Here we are talking abouta BVLOS flight = Out of sight

In class C6, the aircraft must :

– be CE marked “C6”,
– have a level flight speed limited to 50m/s,
– be equipped with a geo-vigilance system,
– be able to indicate its geographical position, speed and height,
– be equipped with a system to limit the crossing of horizontal and vertical limits,
– be equipped with a motor shutdown system,
– provide a means of controlling its trajectory,
– tell the remote pilot the quality of the radio signal
